About
Kelly Kultala knows the challenges facing Kansas families. As a proud working mom, grandma, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and great-aunt, Kelly’s perspective is like that of many Kansans.
A fifth-generation Kansan, Kelly went back to school when her youngest daughter was just six months old and later earned her college degree from the University of Kansas. As a working mom, Kelly helped pay the bills and provide health care for her family as her husband battled Type 1 diabetes and beat cancer.
Kelly’s time in public service has been defined by working in a bipartisan fashion to improve her community. Kelly has served on the Piper School Board, as a commissioner on the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas and as a the current State Senator for district 5 which includes the cities of Ft. Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Lansing, western Kansas City, KS and Bonner Springs.
Committed to creating jobs to help get grow the Kansas economy, Kelly was instrumental in helping to bring a new office park and soccer stadium in western Kansas City, KS. Kelly was also part of the bipartisan coalition which passed a new Comprehensive Transportation Plan for Kansas. Along with improving highway safety and promoting interstate commerce, this project is expected to create tens of thousands of new jobs over the next decade.
Currently, Kelly is Director of Community Outreach for Youthville, one of Kansas’ largest child advocacy organizations.
Married to husband, Dan, for more than three decades, they have three daughters, Taylor, Whitney, Spenser, two sons-in-law Barry and Ryan and two grandchildren, Lane and Claire.
